About Toad Land

This Toad lives in the Kern River Valley, in the southern Sierra mountains just 40 miles or so west of the Mojave. Though this is cactus and rattlesnake country, large toads are fairly abundant here.  Like conservatives in California, the toad must have protective coloration, and adapt its lifestyle to prevailing conditions, burrowing during intolerable seasons.
